Things Of Interest
Every now and then I come across something interesting. It might be a video, photo or educational article. I publish them here when I think it's worth sharing. Hopefully you'll be entertained from a little insight into what I find interesting.

If you find something interesting, share it with me. I do enjoy hearing from everyone.

I'm mostly interested in geeky stuff, of course. But I also like silly things, like old TV Shows and jokes. I don't know if this section can be categorized or described very well. It's probably best that I just let you explore.

Well, on that note... I hope you enjoy my thoughts! *smile*

Retr0bright
I came across this recipe for Retr0Bright. Its a mixture you throw together to clean the browned plastic of 80's toys. If you have any old plastic that has browned over the years, this is the stuff to make it white again. [view]

LHC Update
This is good news. It has been pretty quiet from the LHC lately. They launched with big excitement last year and they fell off the radar. There's a new video this week. Tara does a great job of explaining where they are heading next. If you are like me, i'm sure you are excited for any new breakthroughs they have for us! [view]

The Old Robots
I stumbled across this website today. What a great find! It is too bad that I won't own most of these robots... So reading, seeing pictures and watching videos of them sure helps! [view]

2012 Ford Focus ST
Looks like I'm going to have to make room for another car! So many North Americans are unaware of the European Ford Vehicles. That includes the Ford Focus and its race/rally inspired models. The Ford Focus in North America is real crap. But, they are finally doing something about it. [view]

Deadly Games
I really want to watch this show! But I can't seem to find it anywhere. Looks cheesy and cool. [view]

Captain Z-RO!
This was an old black and white TV Show about a time travelling dude. I'm glad to see YouTube has episodes of it! Super cheesy, but wicked for its time. [view]

I'm made to get down
Sex robot Sex robot. Sex robot Sex robot. La la la la la la! [view]

Sock Robot
I really want to be impressed to these programmers, but I could not help but laugh at this video! [view]

Audi RS4 B5 Review
This is obviously an old Top Gear video, but I thought it was interesting because it is a good review. My favourite part is where they compare the brake size to a Ford Focus. This is before the Ford Focus was bastardized by its cheap plastic North Americian version. The Focus in Europe was a very different car with a very different reputation before we destroyed it. [view]

Let's pretend we don't exist

Out Of The Unknown - Liar
Out of the Unknown is a British television science fiction series by the BBC from 1965 to 1971. Each episode was a dramatisation of a science fiction short story. This link brings you to the story of Liar from Isaac Asimov. In his book Liar, it was the first use of the word "Robotics", in 1941. [view]

IBM 5100 - First Portable Computer
The first portable computer weighed around 50 pounds, had a 16-bit processor and 64K RAM! [view]

Top Gear USA?
They really shouldn't have done this! When I hear the words Top Gear, I instantly think of the show and hosts I've been conditioned to love... Jeremy, Captain Slow and Richard. But when you introduce an american version with the same title, I can't help but compare the two. If they would have given the USA version any other name, I wouldn't be so hard to judge it. But the fact remains, this show will fail and only be watched by hill billy nascar lovers that have never seen Top Gear UK and threfore have nothing to compare it to. They will accept the second class USA version. [view]

Computer Madness
In the words of my friend Michelle "You are such a nerd!". Yes, yes I am! But I prefer geek. [view]

C64 Guitar Hero
Sweet! I get asked often how I find the time... But this guy takes the cake. How long would it take to code Guitar Hero on a C64? Best part is it plays SID files, so you can load your favourite demo track. [view]

Anonymouse.Org
Okay, so all the "mice" who worry about "cheese"... Screw the metaphores Anonymouse.org! The dirty linux hippies who use http://Anonymouse.org are hilarious. So the purpose of the site is to prevent the website that you're visiting from seeing what IP and browser you have. Well, the funny thing about Anonymouse.org is that they survive off Ads and Popups, which are specific to your geographic location. In turn this means: Hello, the information you are delusionally trying to protect is going to Ad Servers and Spam Companies, rather then the friendly site you are visiting (i.e. ebay.com). Who would you rather give that information too? The ignorant conspiracists are contributing to spam by protecting themselves *tongue* [view]

The Next Big Thing - Audi
This is a 6 part youtube short movie created by Audi to promo the A1. [view]

Grrr Calgary Roads!
This city!! Damn Calgary. So I drive across the country every summer, and it occured to me how poor Alberta Road Construction is. When the roads are grated, they leave lips at the beginning and end. They also don't take much care with signs. And worse is the condition they leave the road during construction. For example, dozens of KM's of Deerfoot Trail has a 4" lip seperating the center and right lane. Anyone with a sports car can not cross lanes without scratching their wheel.

So, why the rant right now? Because I cracked a rim!!!

Hysterics "Mostly Untitled"
This is a great music video! I like the song too. Have a listen [view]

System 3 Promition Video
This is a real fun video for oldschool computer interest. I've used the S/3 Emulator quite a bit, but I'm certain nothing would compare to using the real thing. It's interesting to see how such a simple machine was so complicated back then. Additionally, what are those three dudes doing sitting in the park? Watch the video lol [view]

Who says church is boring? LOL [view]

Hilarious Car Paint Tips
To summarize the article before you read it... Don't wash your redneck douche-bag mullet mobile after it's received a shitty $400 two toned Maaco paintjob that you paid for from returning recycled Pilsner cans.

Maybe there is good information in that article, but after reading the first paragraph and the picture... LOL I just couldn't keep reading without laughing! I just can't believe someone captioned that photo as "Freshly painted vintage chevy camaro"!! If you know anything about cars, you'd know that camaro is only vintage if you live in a mobile trailer park.

Fairchild Briefing on Integrating Circuits
Filmed in 1967, some dudes talk about the advancement in semiconductor technology. It's funny because one of the guys keeps commenting in the background. They are pretty nervous and pronounce words incorrectililily, like successiful. But it's a good watch because they do a great job of explaining the history of IC. [view]

iPad is a Comedy Gold Mine
LOL, I've ranted about the iPad and how its sheep customers are brainwashed to think it's cool. Mostly because anyone who wants an iPad can't afford an iPad anyway. But this video made me laugh! [view]

Jake and Amir
LOL, I've been watching this show for quite a while and since I'm locked in a clients office right now with nothing else to do... I'm watching more episodes of it. So I decided to share this link. It's two guys who work for College Humour and one of them is really annoying, but a great actor. You can get the videos in Podcast from iTunes, or watch them from this link. [view]

Computer Pioneers and Pioneer Computing
This is a two part video on Youtube about the evolution of computers. It is sponsored by the Computer History Museum. It's full of old videos and pictures, as well as technical information about the computers. There is also plenty of information about the people behind the computers. Each part of the video is 1 hour long. [view]

Streaming Madness Documentaries
Streaming Madness is a website that hosts images and videos of documentaries. You can watch the documentaries online and they are in categories for you. [view]

Bugatti Veyron Super Car
I don't care if it's not the fastest car in the world anymore. When you see the engineering that went behind this masterpiece, you'll understand. It's handling and acceleration is unimaginable when you consider the weight of the car including it's luxury items. This video is in 4 parts and documents the concept and engineering behind the Bugatti Veyron...

Watch Video: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4

Ford Focus RS 500... YUM!
Just, wow. That's all I have to say. Watch the video.

Biocomputer Enactment
Bio-Computing is the process of harnessing the speed of a biological brain to perform computations. There have been rumours (i.e. Rat brain controlled robot) of advancements in this science. I will believe it if I see it.

But, that being said, the video is kinda fun. This guy unpacks a fake bio-computer from the future. He really has quite the imagination.

My only question with advanced computing hardware like D-Wave's quantum processors and this theoretical bio-computer, is this... What will the Futureshop employees and Apple users be doing when you need a PhD to just turn the thing on?

I suspect Apple users and Starbuck customers will refuge to mountain caves and re-invent fire.

Extreme Science Fiction
LOL It's a little difficult to tolerate with the narrator's wet mouth in this video. But you might get a kick out of the story if you have a basic understanding of any science or logic. What I find funny about this video is the extreme and drastic shift from Fact to Fiction.

The narrator recites known scientific fact about empty space between particles, etc, etc... Then suddenly he jumps off the deep-end and starts suggesting extreme science fiction. Other then by a very creative mind, there is no scientific evidence to fuel his suggestions. He's very extreme!

It's the job of a philosophers to lure people to be interested in your rants. But when science begins explainings things with more accurate observations, it is difficult to take people like this seriously.

Pixels
This is a short independent film called "Pixels". It's pretty amazing for being a little over a minute long. Lots of references to old video games as the pixels take over the world. [view]

Rocket Man
It's going to be a long long time. It has been a long long time, since we've reflected at where we came from. We can't look back and judge, opinionate and critique. It's seriously gone too far. It's time to reflect, learn and acknowledge our mistakes. Only then can we more forward to progress and unite to work towards a future with a common goal. It doesn't matter your religion, culture or beliefs... We all ask the same questions. We all want the same answers. [view]

Affordable Bluetooth
After an exhaustive search for an affordable bluetooth module, I finally found one. This Bluegiga sells for $29 USD at www.semiconductorstore.com. [view]

This might be an older video, but it is new to me. I don't follow many animtronics, but this one made me laugh. [view]

Teenage models? Or porn?
Anyone can be a model? With Charisma Models, anyone can post half naked pics of themself. No age limit! No size limit! No filters! No subscription! Just upload your underwear pics and let perverts compliment you. I'm certain you won't regret these pictures returning to haunt you on your wedding day. After all, you're apparently a model because you posted pics on Charisma Models dot com. *wink*

Charisma Models exploits young girls with low self esteem and low confidence. Pictures on Myspace or Facebook isn't enough... Now you can post pics of yourself in your underwear on Charisma Models. And best of all, there will be least one pervert out there to tell you how beautiful you are! LOL

**Attention parents, you might want to make sure your kids don't end up on there!

Bluetooth or Food?
The longer I continue to use bluetooth for my circuit boards, the less money I find in my wallet. I just noticed that the price of embedded Bluetooth transceivers have maintained their ridiculous price for years. I favour the Roving Networks bluetooth module because it embeds a RS232 TTL interface.

My EZ-B board provides a great platform for the hobbiest community. I've even received an email from someone who built their prototype off my EZ-B and is now going into production. I'd like to see more success from EZ-B, but with these bluetooth prices... it's difficult.

iPhone gets multitasking?
I have to check the calendar to verify the year. Yup, still 2010. So why did it take Apple all these years to implement multitasking ability into the iPhone? Why wasn't it designed that way from the beginning?

I'm sitting with a box of my old Mobile Devices running Windows CE and Windows Mobile from Microsoft. The oldest device I have dates back to 2003, and it multitasks. And it does it very well!

So following Apple's announcement, all of the Starbuck Apple customers are excited about it. My question is... Are Apple customers so ignorant that they are unaware of the advanced alternatives out there?

Apples technology is always a few years behind. The processors in the iphone, the graphics and processors in the notebooks, even the harddrives... All old stuff. Apple isn't leading edge, and never will be. They exist to prevent Microsoft from having a monopoly.

And honestly, I'd rather have Microsoft competitors be Apple users then Linux users. Ever smelt a Linux user? Icky!! Linux users always have exact change in their pocket, ever notice that?

Apple's user-friendliness is understood as "Feature lacking" to the rest of the world.

If Apple was a literature publisher, they'd publish childrens books with small words and big fonts *smile*

1967 Computer Prediction

Evidence of God: Physics
Someone needs to explain the Chicken & Egg question to this dude. The problem with the internet is anyone can post and say anything. They can even use the word "Evidence" and then babble about something that anyone with half a brain could see right through.

Okay, I'm not an athiest... I believe in something, because the m/string/multiverse theory predicts it (Mostly likely i'm the creator so be nice to me). I will not go as far to say "fine tuning" of our universe is evidence of a creator. In fact, anyone who hasn't been brainwashed by a church would watch this video and see that his facts lean towards the opposite. He's using many metaphore scenarios to explain the "fine tuning" of our universe. But he's leaving out the fact that the universe was here before us. And if the universe was any different, we simply wouldn't exist (or be different). The universe was not created for us... We evolved to adapt to it.

He also has some huge trouble understanding the concept of Infinity... It seems to him that infinity is a very very long time.

1988 Commodore 64 Video
This is a video from Computer Chronicles television show that aired in 1988. It's a 28 minute feature on the Commodore 64. It is great because they interview a few different programmers, including Skate Or Die! And Bill Morrow who talks about the SID chip. [view]

Remote Control SR-71 Jet
This is a video of a remote control SR-71 Blackbird. Wow listen to it! That would be a fun toy. [view]

Mobile DJ Station Car
I got a good kick out of this page. I stumbled across it entirely by accident. It's a car that someone converted into a mobile dj station. The rear-end has large custom spaceship-like speaker enclosures. Sadly, they didn't do much with the rest of the car and it even has the stock rims. [view]

How To Use A Traffic Circle
This is specifically regarding the Calgary Mckenzie Towne traffic circle. Everytime I drive to Mckenzie Towne to visit my brother, I almost get in an accident from someone who doesn't know how traffic circles work. I suggest everyone watches this short video. [view]

Nerd Rap
The Robot Pirate song reminded me of a nerd rap artist that I used to enjoy. He goes by YTCracker. There is also the Futuristic Sex Robots, and my favourite song by them was Welcome To The Internet, but I couldn't find the video.

Futuristic sex robots always on the scene. They'll heat up your case like an athlon XP. We don't have no love for the internet schemes, because our paypal accounts are overflowing with green.

Shut up and learn to drive
"Toyota has looked at it... They've had their electronics people look at it... They can't find any electronics problems... Our people can't find any electronics problems" - That's because the complaining consumers are idiots, and so are you.

"Electro-Magnetic problem, that's why NASA is involved" - Seriously shut up.

I've had it with this Toyota issue crap. It's about time someone stands up and blames the consumer for being an uneducated idiot. There is nothing wrong with the electronics or the car. Toyota is getting a bad rap from ignorant hippies and suburbanites who are looking for something to complain about. The fact is, there have been many public announcements from Toyota and consumers who continuely explain that there are no problems.

Michio Kaku Sucks
ARGH It's hard to calm down enough to comment on how much Michio Kaku angers me. Listening to him talk is so dramatic and exaggerated that my teeth grind!

I can cut up any interview with him, but this one just really got me peeved. Firstly, he claims that in 50-100 years computers will put us in a zoo? Then he gets the problem with Moores Law wrong. And then he says Silicon Valley will be abandoned? Well Mr Kaku, time moves forward and Silicon Valley will continue to grow with the rest of the world. Ugh I wish he would just disappear from the media. Hopefully when this 2012 thing blows by, we won't hear much else from him when he's proven wrong, yet again.

Mario AI
This is a program/script/something that someone wrote in an emulator (I suspect) to control Mario using AI. I just found this video and know nothing of the competition or requirements. However it's done, it is really neat to watch. I'll have to do a quick look to find out more about the platform these AI programs run in. There mst be some method of determining the map and where the enemies are. [view]

This is a great website resource for 80's movies. I like browsing their list to find new movies to download. I'm always looking for cheesy 80's movies; and even better when they include cheesy 80's technology! [view]

Computer History Museum
Did you know there is a Computer History Museum? Since around 1999, I visit the website to read and watch videos about historic technology. They have a bunch of videos on YouTube also. I have a roadtrip planned to visit the museum this summer. [view]

Universe From Nothing
Lawrence Krauss is an astronomer. And like all astronomers, they observe far far away stuff. They then apply physics that we learnt from localized earth expirements with the difference in orders of magnitude to compensate for distance and size.

Now Lawrence deserves respect for his creative use of applied physics of his observations. But as you can imagine, there are fundamental problems with astronomers attempting to step in the arena of theoritical physics. They are always going to be wrong because astronomers (much like engineers) aren't trained to apply philosophical relationships on their observations. In fact, by the time an astronomer has enough years under his belt to be considered a professional, he has had all philosophical ability sucked out of his system from staring at little dots in the sky.

Lawrence, I'm not jumping around saying that any bible's god is shaking his head at us... But you can't lie sleepless in bed at night evaluating your existence, emotional relationship with matter, and perspective of time and causality... And not think "Oh my theory might be lacking just a little something something"

Double Gas Milleage?
This guy has had a popular YouTube channel for a while. I feel fustrated everytime I find a link to his videos. He's perfect for the masses of generic sheep people out there.

In this particular video, he lacks the understanding of how an engine works in Closed Loop. Because the O2 sensor measures Oxygen, it doesn't matter what crap you put in your gas tank. In fact, the more pollutants added to your fuel will most likely result in higher fuel consumption. Don't listen to this loser.

"Gas prices have gone through the roof and will never be cheap again" - Ever heard of inflation? Idiot. The only inflation he had was down his pants after watching his perverted beach bikini cam sunglasses video.

Apple iPad
I thought it was April 1st when I watched this launch. I can't beleive Apple is putting stock into this disastrous product. I also was fustrated on how they just are spotlight marketting features that ALL GUIs and Phones have.

Steve's stupid comments: It's very thin. You can change the background. You can browse the web. It's the best browsin experience? Shut up Steve! It's a dream to type on. Phenomenal for mail. Okay now I'm just angry lol.

Was Windows The Leader?
"I don't really care about being right, I just care about success" - Steve Jobs

And that quote is probably why I'm the worst at business and the best at filling requirements. That quote also explains why the most popular products (iphone, etc) are not the best products, right from Steve Jobs' mouth.

Almost all opinionated documentaries are written by overly nerdy self righteous loners, like this video. It fustrates me when they blah blah blah by being entirely wrong and leaving out important information. In this particular video, he tries to make Microsoft look bad for "Stealing" the GUI for Windows 95 from Apple. However, he forgets there were plenty of Microsoft GUI's before Windows 95!

Read All About It
This is a great blast from the past! It's an old TV show I used to watch on TV Ontario as a child. It's about 2 kids who start up a newspaper in an old building left to them by their grandfather. The building has 2 computers that help them solve mysteries. This show always had a spooky feeling to it. [view]

CernTV
This is the CERN YouTube channel. They have information videos to update us on the LHC (Large Hardon Collider) progress. There are even little educational videos that dab into the history of physics and science... Gives us an idea of what inspired this expirement. [view]

Computer Chronicles
An awesome oldschool video of computer games. This video is from the early 1980's and features Atari and EA game programmers. It's pretty amazing to watch and see how far we've come. The interview goes in depth with the game designers and programmers.

There are lots of Computer Chronicle episodes on YouTube that you may enjoy. It's neat how some of the questions can be related to now. There is a good episode on CDROM's.
