2012-02-01 Calgary Canada Post Issues

I have been trying to use Canada Post for our delivery service, but they just keep letting us down. It's sad because it would be great to support a Canadian organization. We're switching to FedEx in 2 weeks... That will make our customers happy! They'll actually get their parcels on time.

Don't get me wrong, Canada Post has successfully delivered every parcel. The question is, how long will it take? A parcel to South Africa using "Small Packets Air" service took 6 weeks. Yup, you read that right! 6! Canada Post's website quotes 6-10 days. They might want to update their estimates.

There have been a few parcels which have arrived within the 6-10 day period. However, if I were to harass my customers with a survey, I would guess 90% show up very very late.

We ship many parcels a day, so we request a pick-up from our location. We request the pick-up the day before with the number of parcels, etc.. Two days ago, the truck never came. We waited, I missed a meeting, I postponed a meeting, I missed lunch. So after 30 minutes past the maximum delivery time, I phoned Canada Post. She took my information and said she'd call me right back.

2 hours later the truck shows up. I did not receive a call, but the truck did show up. Okay, that's great! However, it sure would have been nice to receive the call back we were expecting. Hard to plan your day when you aren't sure what to plan around.

So today I attempted to request a pick-up. Now they must have made a "fix" to their website to prevent you from requesting parcels. Even though the day is the 1st, and I'm requesting a pickup for the 2nd, the javascript isn't checking the day. It only checks the time... "Sorry, computer says no!"

I guess I will be phoning Canada Post in the AM to request a truck. I wonder if it will come?
