2010-10-10 Calgary Sams Autobody Scam
In May of 2010, I wanted to have the front and rear bumpers of my Audi S4 painted for the summer car shows and specifically WUSTE in Las Vegas.
My friends and I sanded the paint off the bumpers with electric sanders, then wet sanded. We had the bumper prepared to perfect condition to be painted by a bodyshop.
I had spoken with Ania from Sam's Body Shop Supplies in Calgary (now Calgary Body Shop & Supply). She has a contractor who paints auto parts for them and she brought me to the back to show off some of his work. It looked great, so I decided to go with them.
Sam's Body Shop took my bumper and 3 days later it was returned to me, painted and perfect color match! I was very excited
A few weeks later we got to Wuste in Las Vegas. Some parts of the bumper started to chip. We had taped the bumper with Green Painters Masking Tape while driving on the highway, so this was wierd. The chips were large and the paint started to flake. The car was then driven up the Pacific Coast Highway and across the #1 in Canada to Ontario. During this time, attending many car shows and chipping more and more...
So when I finally got back home to Calgary in September, I went to Sam's Body Shop and they would not look at the bumper. They said I need to speak to the contractor. I objected and demanded that they deal with the communication to the contractor because their name was on the receipt.
I eventually gave up and met with the contractor. He told me Calgary Body Shop Supplies paid him $100 out of the $500 that I had paid and said to not use primer on the bumper.
Three problems with this arise...
#1) Why did a autobody painter agree to not using primer, when his name was at stake.
#2) Why did Calgary Body Shop & Supply tell him to not use primer.
#3) How can Calgary Body Shop take $400 out of the $500 and not even take responsibility as being the middleman between myself and the contractor.
The contractor said he will not repaint the bumper for free because he did what he was asked. I understand his situation. So I met with Sam's Autobody again. They responded defensive and hostile towards the situation.
So, what did I end up doing? I met with a new contractor who does amazing work. He'll paint my bumper in return for electrical help with his show car. I went to Sam's Autobody and demanded they provide the supplies, they eventually agreed (and were not happy about it, go figure).
The only deal is that I need to remove the existing paint and prep the bumper. So I purchased a 2000 PSI pressure washer and the paint simply peeled away. Wow, what poor quality from Sam's Autobody Supplies (Calgary Bodshop & Supply).
