2010-03-30 Calgary Svt Focus Msg Ignition Failure

I purchased this MSD Ignition Coil when I was having ignition trouble with my Turbo'd SVT Focus. I changed the coil out, and decided to get a new ignition coil harness. I obtained a replacement harness and wired it in. The engine ran similar with the MSD Ignition coil, kept misfiring in boost.

So I spent the past 2 weeks diagnosing every wire and fueling supply. I even changed the fuel filter and cleaned the injectors. I was starting to consider a damaged Crank Position Sensor.

Today, I had the bright idea of putting the stock ignition coil back in. Well, to my surprise the engine ran perfect! I was boosting up to 15 psi with no problems.

I guess it was the harness all along. The plug on the harness had been on and off during engine replacement over the past few years. It must have not been making good contact.

Summary of my story is the MSD Ignition Coil does not work in the SVT Model. And by adding it, I made things worse. *tongue*

Oh, and the picture of the black device is the plastic cover of my MAF. I was tuning and calibrating the MAF so I snuck the camera in to take a pic of the model number. I am keeping it here as it will be handy in the future. It's a 76mm (3 Inch) maf from a 4.6L 1995 Crown Victoria. The model number is F5VF-12B579-BA. I calibrated it in my tune, it seems to be spot on. If you'd like the MAF flow calibration table, let me know.
