2006-12-17 Calgary Crank Case Vent On Neko Focus

I hate having colds. And ritually, I get them at the same time every year. But an advantage to sitting around and doing nothing, my brain is active.

Today's focus was on solving my crank case ventillation issue with my svtf. Here is a quick introduction to the problem...

When I built this new motor and bolted on the stupidly large turbo (GT25R-450), the stock oil seperator had to be removed. The oil seperator would connect directly to the block to allow crank case pressure to escape via the PCV. It's main purpose was to catch the splashing oil from the crank and prevent it from getting out of the pcv. I do have a Greddy Oil Catch Can but I beleive the design doesn't suit my application.

So now that this oil seperator has been removed. I built a custom cover plate and flange where the hole in the block was. The flange now has a hose which connects to the oil catch can. The issue is that the oil splashing into the hose gets pushed up into the catch can. And once inside the can, it has no where to go. And if left unchecked, would eventually push all the oil of my engine into the can. That would be bad *smile*

So my plan is to modify the catch can to hold a flange at the bottom. That is where the crank case will now vent to. When the oil enters the can under aggressive driving, it will drain back into the engine later on.

And since I will have 3 connectors on the can, I will also connect the valve cover to it. Which will let any oil leaking from the valve cover back into the crank case.

So what I did today, since I have a cold and need to rest is just draw up and build a prototype. The prototype is merely an 1 Litre oil container that i JB Welded a rubber gromet into. Then I stick a hose in that grommet and a peice of cloth at the top with a rubber band as a temporary filter. The idea is the oil pushed out of the crank case will end up in the container, and then drain back later.

I will drive this car to work tommorow and see if it performed as expected. If it has, then i will have the third flange threaded into the catch can later this week.

If my cold lets up *tongue*
