2006-09-09 Calgary Svt Focus New Maf
If you look in yesterdays entry, I had taken a drive out into the country to snap some photos of Neko all cleaned and polished with his new motor. Well I washed the car and engine earlier that day, and got out into the country. But water must have seeped into the MAF circuit and shorted it. So I was stranded on some side road and didn't know it's name.
Fortenatly i'm CAA's favourite customer because I use them so often! I managed to talk the tow truck driver to find me. And to fit my car on the flatbed, i had to remove the front bumper.
Well the MAF is toast and i needed a new one. I figured since i'm approaching maxing the stock MAF's potential, i might as well replace it with a larger one.
So I got one off a V8 SOHC Crown Victoria. It's much larger then my stock and doesn't have a built in IAT (Intake Air Sensor).
I'll ramble about the IAT quickly. On naturally asperated cars, the computers gets the reading of the air tempature by the filter. This is okay because the air tempature isn't going to change much throughout it's path into the engine. When you add Forced Induction to a Naturally Asperated car, the tempature of the air is different after compression. The Intercooler is supposed to bring the air charge down to ambient air temp. So, I took the IAT sensor off the Crown Victoria and relocated it into the pipe near the BOV. This gives me an accurate reading of air temp after the turbo.
Now i feel VERY comfortable to tune the heck out of this motor .
Here are pics of how i fit the MAF by using 2 crown victoria mafs (one as a maf, other dramatically modified as an adapter for the air filter).
