2006-08-13 Calgary Rebuild Svt Focus
Well, if you've read that my SVT Focus (named Neko) had blown it's motor again, then this is the continuation.
I went to my friends tuner garage in Red Deer to begin the build of my new motor. This time, way more power.
I started with the SVT Duratec-ST block from a salvage shop in Montana. They sent it to my garage and Saturday i began ripping it apart.
By Saturday night I had removed the old motor, rebuilt the new motor and installed it in the car. I impressed myself. The motor was rebuilt with SVT internals and i gapped the piston rings to compensate for the extra heat of the horsepower i'll be makking. I also installed a new clutch, cams and adjustable cam gear.
Then came the fun part. Building a high horsepower turbo installation from scratch. I started with a log style header that would give me enough room to host the gigantic compressor that was going to hang from it. A .70 a/r trim 400 horsepower turbo with T25 flange.
I build the downpipe to connect to my existing 3" exhaust out of stainless steel. Then the Tial 38 mm wastegate dumps out under the car. Boy it sounds great!
The intercooler required me to cut the front frame but i welded re-enforcements in place .
The piping from the turbo is all alluminum and welded! I didn't do the aluminum welds of course, i had a more compitent friend from Lightspeed do it.
The turbo choice is perfect. I have full spool by 3,000 RPM. I permenantly installed a datalogging wideband for tuning. My daily driving air fuel ratios are almost dead on for fuel economy. The WOT (Wide open throttle) air fuel ratio is a little rich in places, but I'll have time this week to clean it up. My goal AFR is 11.5:1 at WOT.
I use an MSG DIS filter to clean the rpm signal to the datalogger.
Uhm, i don't know what else you'd need to know. Oh... How much power is it making? I don't really care about the dyno, it's the road that counts. While tuning I stuck with a 2006 Corvette. That should give you an idea. We're suspecting around 290-300 Wheel Horsepower. That's about 360-370 Crank Horsepower.
My goal is 400 Crank Horsepower. I'll reach that later this week when my Greddy Profec Boost controller arrives.
