2006-07-01 Fernie Busted Collar Bone Trip
Happy Canada Day To Me
"Just slow down everyone your moving to fast, Frames cant get you when your moving like that."
As usual, every 6 months i break/tear/bruise or dislocate something. Right on target!
I went riding the downhill in Fernie. I only have one hand to type this with so grrrrr. I was moving pretty good and feeling overly aggressive. 2 stunts located close together. Too much speed i over shot the first jump and launched into the top of the second.
Not enough speed to table top the two. Instead, I caught my front tire and super man'd 8 feet onto my head and shoulder...
Why was the only armour i wasn't wearing shoulder pads? Because i'm an idiot! It was too hot or something i guess. Learn from me kids, ZAP the broken bird. Wear your damn armour!!!!
I'm going to start a blog in here about my progress and concerns. Since i have a lot of free time now
July 2nd I got home from fernie and loaded up the internet to help research what to do. I've noticed conflicting information on every site i visit. It appears some ppl say 4 weeks and i'm healed; others say 8 weeks. Also some sites mention using a sling and others a figure-of-eight. My question is what the heck is the real answer? How will my bones automagically aling? I mean look at my xray! they're an inch apart. I guess leaving it as still as possible is the solution? thats tough to do! it hurts lol
July 3rd I went to visit Dr Dale MacDonald, a friend and sports doctor. His clinic isn't far from my house so I drove. I noticed that as long as i move slow and careful, it doesn't hurt much. He took a look at my drssing and tightened the sling abit. Gave me a topographic anti-inflamatory cream and explained that surgery would get me on my back quickest. That scares me.. needles and operations. YUCK! i think i'll tough it out naturally. He also gave me some insane multi vitamins. I'm now taking: - 4 x 500 mg calcium - 3 x multi vitamin - 1 x 50 mg zync - 3 x glcosumine sulphate
July 4th Last night was an alright sleep which gave me some more confidence to relax. But i must have over worked myself because i'm so friggin sore this evening. it hurts so much. a constant throb and i can feel the bones running at each other again. i need to sleep but i can't concentrate on sleep.
July 5th I've been taking my sling and figure-of-eight off to shower every morning except this morning. I kept the figure of eight on so i could stretch my elbow as its beeb sore from not moving. i worry what my shoulder will feel like in a few weeks!!!! today i've lied in the sun on the back deck in a nice chair all day. Really enjoying the free time! today is also officially my last day at Symantec, so i sat through my exit interview on the phone which distracted from the pain. It's real hard to sit still. I worry as though i'm moving it too much and its not going to heal.
July 6th Today was good. Yesterday the pain was kinda random. Today NO swelling and i'm able to move the arm slightly (still in a sling). I looked and there is no bump, which means the muscles have pulled the bones togethe. I'm prett positive today, lots of progress! I even spent some time working and playing in the studio. I am totally impressed with how I feel.
July 7th Wow, I woke up like nothing was wrong. All these vitamins, rest and healthy diet is paying off. It feels so painless that it's tough to not push it further. I want to rip the sling off and start dancing, but somthing tells me it's not a good idea. I figure at this rate i'll be using the other arm for typing very soon. The hardest part is knowing i have to hold it still even though it doesn't hurt. Boy that's fustrating! Oh ya, i'm also moving to 2000 mg of calcium per day now. My right arm really hurt this evening because i've been over using it apparently. Need to rest the good arm
July 8th Today ruled!!!! i got up with no pain and spent the day hanging with friends in the back yard. Then the evening was awesome as i just hung out with chris and watched documentaries of the titanic and darwin. well, chris slept. well, chris snored.
July 9th Doo Daa Doo Daa!! I am sooooo perfect feeling today now. I typed a bit with both hands because i've had to work. It got a little sore but i managed to move into a comfy position to type. I got in front of the mirror today to check out the bones as it's been feeling good the past few days. And WOW! They are connected. I can trace my finger along the bone and feel the other under a lump. Its not even a big lump. They are very closely attached. And when I move, i can see the whole bone moving, not just the half. So as long as i can keep her steady and continue relaxing then i'm A-O-K. OH BTW, this is day #8 without beer or alcohol!! Only 3 more weeks left *cringe*
