2006-06-25 Calgary Bye Bye Svt Focus Motor
So everyone has been asking "how is the car running?" and my answer has been "Amazing, never better!", then you can see my hand find the nearest peice of wood to knock on.
Well I guess the last peice of wood wasn't wood at all. I was driving North on highway #2 to visit Cam at Lightspeed. Beautiful sunny day and enjoying some music. When I went to shift gears, pushed in the clutch and the throttle was stuck open a bit... revved to probably 10,000 rpm. and POP, a bunch of smoke out the exhuast.
Why 10,000? Because Diablo's friggin standalone flash doesn't have a rev limiter built in. I'm serious, what a god damn disaster.
And why did the throttle stick? The spring on the throttle body is a bit worn and hasn't had enough action to completely close the throttle. I've expierenced it before and glued a peice of plastic under it to increase the tension. It had been working for a few weeks now, this is the first re-occurance.
And apparently, the last.
So what's next? Cylinder #1 wall is scored real bad. I doubt I can overbore. Suspecting to be sleaved at best. The piston has a valve stuck in it, and the other valve was pushed through into the oil pan. The head is missing to valves and is definetly not recoverable.
Pretty much my only option is to buy an entirely new motor.
